Associate Head for Industry & Enterprise

Dr. Cooper Frank

【Profile】

Cooper is Associate Head at the Birmingham School of Jewellery. He sits on the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council and is a globally recognised expert in the application of Additive Manufacturing and Prototyping/3D printing technologies used in the jewellery industry. He participates in research initiatives and has written and presented many technical papers and articles around the world.

【Abstract】

The Additive Manufacturing of metals is now a rapidly maturing and widely accepted industrial manufacturing process. By attending this presentation you will learn how the Additive Manufacturing of precious metals is gaining traction in the jewellery design and manufacturing industries and see many examples of jewellery products printed in Gold, Silver and Platinum and gain an overview of the various design processes the technology allows the jeweller and silversmith to adopt. Particular attention will be paid to the ability of Additive Manufacturing to produce unique, one of a kind, personalised and customised jewellery items. We will also have a consideration of some of the medical and industrial application opportunities that the Additive Manufacturing of precious metals can open up

【Profile】

Ronald Rael is professor of architecture at the University of California Berkeley and the CEO of the 3D Printing Make-Tank, Emerging Objects.

【Abstract】

While most of the additive manufacturing industry focuses on plastic, many materials have been developed that can be recycled, come from waste streams, or from sustainable sources. This lecture will discuss the potential of alternative materials for additive manufacturing with a focus on their application in design and architecture.
